Abstract:

This report reviews shellside flow regime maps in HTRI, HTFS, and open literature sources. HTFS maps are based on air-water experiments performed in both an ideal rectangular baffled exchanger and a TEMA glass exchanger with horizontal baffle cuts. Open literature methods almost exclusively focus on vertically upward cross flow. Based on this review and on our ongoing research involving the transparent shell-and-tube heat exchanger (TSTX) in the Multipurpose Visualization Unit, we intend to improve the current HTRI shellside flow regime map.
