Abstract:

Pressure drop and heat transfer data have been obtained on a Turbotec deep spirally- grooved tube operating with a highly viscous fluid at low Reynolds number.

Results presented here show significant improvement over the performances of a plain tube under similar flow conditions in heating runs. On the contrary, the cooling runs produced no comparable improvement suggesting a "freeze-up" of the viscous oil in the deep grooves.
