Abstract:

Over the years HTRI has been assembling a data bank of field experience of shell-and-tube heat exchanger vibration problems as a part of its consulting activities with the Argonne National Laboratories. To date 82 cases have been documented. Since the early 1970's, HTRI has offered a vibration analysis as an option in its major computer programs used to rate, evaluate, and design shell-and-tube heat exchangers. This report describes the character of the data bank, the vibration analysis procedures, and reports the ability of the vibration analysis procedures to correctly predict flow-induced vibration problems.
