Abstract:

In the early stages of HTRI research on shellside flow, it was necessary to establish the general behavior and accuracy of the existing methods. The methods considered were those of Donohue, Kern, Bell-Delaware, Braun and TEMA. Their predictions were compared with approximately 600 data points on 12 different units that were available in the HTRI data bank.

The Bell-Delaware method produced more consistent results than the others. However, none of the methods tested proved satisfactory with errors ranging up to 1000 percent. The results of this initial investigation determined our future course of action, which lead to the development of the "Stream Analysis Method."
