Abstract:

To model a flooded refrigerant evaporator in Xist, we apply HTRI’s shellside flow boiling model to an X shell. We have developed a procedure that ensures that the foaming circulation at the top of the bundle is adequately represented. When used with this procedure, our current shellside flow boiling model predicts heat transfer well for plain-tube bundles and underpredicts heat transfer (approximately 10 – 25%) for low-finned tube bundles, according to some field data cases.
