Abstract:

The tubesheet temperature calculation method developed by Karl Gardner continues to be used extensively in heat exchanger design. The method, which dates back to 1942, relies on simplifying assumptions concerning heat transfer coefficients and conductive characteristics of the tube and tubesheet geometry to develop an easy-to-use equation set. This article summarizes the method in preparation for potential implementation into a future version of HTRI software.
