Abstract:

HTRI conducted tests on crude oil No.18 with stainless steel tubes. The results show that the fouling rates are much lower with stainless steel tubes than with carbon steel tubes. Chemical analyses indicate that asphaltene adhesion is the dominant fouling mechanism for stainless steel, while corrosion is the dominant fouling mechanism for carbon steel.
