Abstract:

HTRI collected two-phase adiabatic and boiling pressure drop data across two ideal plain tube bundles over a wide range of operating conditions; we also compiled void fraction data from open literature. Our current method underpredicts two-phase pressure drop across a plain tube bundle; it may overpredict pressure drop in the shear-control regime and significantly underpredict pressure drop in the gravity-controlled regime. In this report, we discuss these data, evaluate the two-phase pressure drop methods for HTRI and HTFS, and identify areas for improvements. Finally, we propose an improved two-phase pressure drop method for upward crossflow boiling, featuring a drift flux model for predicting void fraction in cross flow.
