Abstract:

To improve our prediction of flow boiling heat transfer coefficients at low temperature differences, we must modify our intube flow boiling model for vertical tubes, removing the natural convection term and including all convection effects in the convective boiling term. This report reviews literature methods, proposes a new method that focuses on the convective boiling contribution, and confirms the method using the experimental data in our data bank for both upflow and downflow, including the data we collected recently for low Reynolds numbers in upflow tubes. The improved convective boiling method for Rel < 10000 is also applicable to intube flow boiling in horizontal tubes with a correction.
