Abstract:

Based on recent HTRI data, single-phase methods underestimate intube pressure drop in subcooled boiling regimes. To improve these methods, we identified a correlation available in the open literature and tailored it to match HTRI data. The resulting correlation consists of a multiplier for the single-phase pressure drop. The multiplier is a function of the heat flux, mass velocity, pressure, and subcooling—parameters that we expect to influence nucleation at the tube wall. The results correlate well with HTRI data.
